2016 April - The European community gives green light to the registration of the mark of quality PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) of extra virgin olive oil produced in Sicily.
The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) is a quality mark which is issued by the European Union, which defines the products that are identified by the characteristics linked to a particular territory and which comply with a product specification where it is verified the origin "historical" in the territory.
Sicily gets this prestigious award as the second "territorial geographical indication" for the olive oil after the one decided by the Union for Europe for Tuscany
